What is Health and Wellness Coaching

So, you may be asking yourself…what is health & wellness coaching? Here are some snippets to give you a great idea!

.

As your health and wellness coach I will be your guide on the side. As the client you are the expert on you. Yes, that’s right, you are the expert! Only you know yourself the best. Through active listening (which a lot of us just don’t get any more in today’s world) I will listen to you about what YOU want out of your life, how you want to seek out and accomplish your goals and what may be road blocks or obstacles that are stopping you. We live in a society now a days where everyone is trying to get their word in and not listen to you or you can talk to someone and they may be “hearing” you but aren’t “actively” listening. I will listen, clarify what I heard and build powerful questions to help guide our conversation to assist you to get further down your path so you can experience and see lasting changes. The goal is for you to be able to see an enhancement in your well-being and how to maintain it.

Health and wellness coaching is different than therapy, mentoring, counseling, life coaching or consulting. “A Health and wellness coach is focused on the present and moving forward and building for a better future, we work with our client to create actionable strategies to help achieve specific goals within their work or personal life. Coaching is future focused!” Coaching Psychology Manual, Second Edition by Margaret Moore

Through virtual visits I am not going to tell you what to do. Instead, I will help guide you as you figure out your path alongside of you by use of the following:

  • A dynamic conversation that will be filled with powerful questions, exercises, role play if needed.
  • Visioning and laying out your dreams.
  • Some self-assessments if needed.
  • Looking at the barriers head on.
  • Learning about tools to help with stress reduction, clarity and how to be present (mindful in the moment).
  • How to move forward using what you have learned in our session.

“Coach Serena is transparent and gave me a glimpse of her journey and obstacles when I asked about who she is. She made me feel comfortable and she has been in my shoes, she was able to relate to me and I know she can do the same for others on multiple levels.” SS

The client directs and leads the session, not the coach. As a Health and Wellness Coach I can educate when needed as well but I will not give advice or directions unless it’s an exercise or assessments (homework) that the client could agree to do. In other words, I won’t tell you how to climb the mountain, but will be there to guide you along that mountain climb, cheer you on and see you reach the top! “Health and wellness coaching is different because the client takes full responsibility for their own Health and Wellness and because of it they can improve their own lives.” Michael Arloski, coach and author of Wellness Coaching for Lasting Lifestyle Change

Why Health and Wellness Coaching?

Health and Wellness coaches like myself have experience in specific areas and niches. I have experience in integrative health practices and nutrition; through my expertise I assist clients in the following:

  • Lyme Disease (recovering from and/or how to move forward while having symptoms)
  • GYN Cancers (recovering from one of these cancers)
  • Neuro Disorders
  • Caregivers to loved ones who are elders and particularly who have battled cancer
  • Grief Support (ones who have experienced loss of an elder or sibling)
  • Mindful Eating
  • Healthy Work-Life Balance
  • Those suffering from mentally and emotionally challenging work environments

We will do a deep dive together in regards to those areas and learn more about what you want to do in your life starting now and beyond. A Health and Wellness Coach’s main focus is one’s physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health and wellness no matter where you are in this journey of life. In coaching we can explore many areas without judgment and through a compassionate heart. I will make sure that the coaching space whether virtually or in person will be a safe space for you to share and openly be you. I want you to feel supported when we have our time together and between sessions.

Compassion is the heart and soul of coaching. It is a human being-to-human being experience of acceptance, caring and understanding.” Michael Arloski, coach and author of Wellness Coaching for Lasting Lifestyle Change
